Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner for Total Joint Surgeon

Full time position for an Orthopedic surgery PA/NP, preferably with total joint replacement experience. This practitioner will work directly with one surgeon who specializes in knee and hip replacement surgery. You will spend two days in the operating room and the remaining days in the office. Zero to 2 ER calls per month at a non-trauma community hospital. Very competitive salary and incentive bonus. Location in Southeast Florida Beach community, Palm Beach Gardens.
Job Title: Mid Level Provider (NP/PA)
General Summary: An exempt position responsible for providing primary care services, including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients. Works closely with the supervising physician in a team approach to patient care, specializing in total joint replacement.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Assesses patient status by obtaining health history through patient/family interviews and chart reviews; assessing presenting illness, risk factors, and family history, psychosocial situation, and cultural factors; and performing appropriate physical examinations.
- Orders/performs appropriate diagnostic studies and other screening tests. Seeks other information as needed, including consultation with supervising physician for evaluation of illness. Integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan, including identification of any health risks.
- Communicates treatment plan to patient and facilitate getting the patient ancillary treatments (prescribing/dispensing medications and/or injections, PT, DME, MRI, labs). Instructs patient/family regarding medications and treatments. Educates patients regarding health promotion/illness prevention. Recommends appropriate community resources to meet patient/family needs. Prepares documentation for medical records including updating patient medical chart by posting examination and test results, diagnosis, medications, and treatment plan.
- Collaborates with supervising physician in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between visits according to treatment plan including triaging patient calls/emails.
- Assist supervising physician in the hospital and outpatient surgery center, including during surgery, post-op orders, rounding and follow up care.
- Assist supervising physician with on-call services, including primary and backup emergency calls, complete initial consultations for ER patients, admit patients to hospital from ER (when appropriate).
- Work independently in office treating post-op / follow up patients; performing knee / hip injections, as well as blood draws for PRP injections.
Education/ State Licensure Requirements: BSN required; MSN preferred. Current ARNP / PA state license with prescriptive authority.
Other Requirements: Must be able to travel to all office locations. Clean driving record required. Maintain privileges in good standing at hospitals and/or any other facilities deemed necessary by the employer.
Experience: Minimum of three years of recent experience working in a clinical and surgical setting. Orthopedic experience required. Athena (EMR) experience a plus.
