Dr. Abeyewardene is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon with subspecialty fellowship training in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery.

He is committed to providing exceptional care for people living in Palm Beach County.

He specializes in both non-surgical and surgical treatment of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and elbow. His particular areas of interest are arthritis, fractures, and tendon and nerve surgery of the hand and elbow. Dr. Abeyewardene also excels in treating athletes of all ages and abilities, treating sports injuries from fingertip to shoulder.

He has been featured in stories in local, national, and international news including the Palm Beach Post, the Reader’s Digest, and Palm Beach Daily. He has also been recognized for excellence in his field with Top Doctor awards in both Jupiter Magazine and Palm Beach Illustrated for multiple years.

Dr. Abeyewardene completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Michigan State University. He then completed advanced fellowship training in hand to shoulder surgery at the University of Florida. At his fellowship, he trained under Dr. Paul Dell, one of the preeminent minds in hand surgery for the last 35 years. After fellowship, he has served the communities of Jupiter, Juno Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Island, Wellington, and Boyton Beach by providing premier orthopedic and hand surgery trauma care starting in 2019.

Dr. Abeyewardene is a skilled surgeon who performs both inpatient and outpatient procedures. Most of his elective procedures are performed on an outpatient basis at a surgery center, where patients can go home the same day. Among other advanced treatments, he offers endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery, arthroscopic wrist procedures, and ultrasound-guided injections. He is committed to a patient-centric care model to create personalized treatment plans based on the patient’s unique needs. He also understands that health care can be stressful and expensive, and never orders tests or recommends surgery unless absolutely necessary so that health care costs can be kept to a minimum.

Dr. Abeyewardene is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters and is an avid United States soccer and Arsenal F.C. supporter.
